ABSTRACT :
- This independent study report aims to show how Traffic Engineering technique in combination with Minimum Delay Routing can be applied to improve the efficiency of the network. In general, the routing protocols used in IP (Internet Protocol) networks are Single Path Routing protocols, which are not effectively utilized overall network bandwidth. Moreover, it is known that Video, Voice streams are not well support by Single Path Routing. This report considers two techniques of how Traffic Engineering in combination with Minimum Delay Routing can be used to maximize the utilization of network bandwidth and to minimize of overall network delay. First, in order to make a relation of path and capacity of bandwidth, Traffic Engineering technique is used to define the optimization criteria and input traffic metric for medium and long time scales to set a group of flows. Second, for given set of off-line metrics, Minimum Delay Routing Algorithm is used to calculate the best path, which results in routing parameters. Then, the routing parameters are distributed to all routers in the network. Experimental results show that Traffic Engineering in combination with Minimum Delay Routing substantially improve network performances.
